What makes the Gajendragada saree unique?

Patteda Anchu received the Geographical Indication (GI) Tag because it is a heritage handloom textile woven exclusively in parts of North Karnataka, using techniques, motifs, and dyeing practices that have been preserved for centuries. The GI Tag protects its authenticity, recognises its cultural significance, and ensures that every saree carrying this name is made by the traditional artisan communities who have kept this craft alive.

Looms and Threads used in Gajendragada Sarees

Gajendragada sarees are woven using traditional looms and techniques that date back more than seven decades. The weavers use carefully prepared cotton yarns, precise warp setting, and region-specific motifs that reflect the heritage of North Karnataka. Every saree carries the signature balance of bold borders, strong geometry, and deep color tones inspired by the rugged landscape of Gajendragada.

The sarees are primarily woven using cotton yarn counts such as 2/40 for warp and 2/40 or 2/60 for weft, sourced from certified suppliers like NHDC.

How is Jaali Gum Used in Gajendragada Textiles?

It is used as a natural stiffener and binder, helping strengthen threads, enhance durability, and improve the finish of handwoven textiles like sarees.

What Are the Benefits of Jaali Gum for Skin?

Jaali gum helps hydrate, soothe, and protect the skin. Its natural polysaccharides form a gentle moisture barrier, supporting healing, reducing dryness, and improving skin elasticity.
